Seems like a beautiful set with the die cast engine and 5 K Line Reading aluminum cars. Anyone have it?

What was the original MSRP for the set? Thanks. Jim

The original price was $999, however, I purchased mine by mail in an after Christmas sale for $599. Not totally sure, I might have paid even less than that. Mine is still in its original box.

Thanks for your input. Seems like a great set. Anyone have a chance to run this set?

As I recall, there was a review of this set in either CTT or OGR at the time it came out.

Unlike the the Weaver set, this set was semi-scale. It also had the infamous K-Line Real Sounds.

I remember Boscovs also put an ad in the last page of U.S.A. Today trying to push these out. I was surprised when reading the paper and came to the last page to see that.

I paid $500.00 for my set which will get proto 2 or 3 some day. I think it is gorgeous and will look so good in my Reading Terminal (not sure if it ever ran out of there) but it is gorgeous.

I bought one of the Reading Company Crusader passenger cars by K-Line recently, and it is very nicely detailed. I wish I had the whole set of passenger cars. I am trying to acquire the Reading Crusader cars.

I have the Reading Crusader steam engine, cab 117 by MTH with PS-1. If the PS-1 goes I may change it over to Williams circuit board and True Blast 2 steam unit.

A little FYI, Boscov's has quit selling model trains by anybody. At least the Boscov's that I went into east of Hershey PA on route 422. Also checked their website and no model trains.

From what I understand, K-line had some sets returned. A dozen or so of these were upgraded with TMCC and resold by MDK.

That was a nice set. I had a vendor sell one of those 2 years ago for $700.00. I thought that was a little high but the guy who bought it was very happy.

The shrouding over the rear of the tender to fit the passenger cars looked best by K-Line

Yes, it did. It ran between Reading Terminal and Jersey City Terminal. Tracks ended at bumpers. That is why there was an observation car at each end - the consist did not have to be turned after every run.

Yes, it is gorgeous.

Reading Terminal and Reading Terminal Market have been restored as Convention Center at SEPTA Market Street East station. Ride up two escalators and the 13-track train shed unfolds overhead. That is the largest single-span train shed remaining in North America.

Now that the holidays are coming, I recommend taking Amtrak to 30th Street Station and/or SEPTA to Market Street East and enjoying holiday displays - an "O" Gauge FasTrack layout in Reading Terminal Market (www.readingterminalmarket.org), SEPTA MUseum at 1234 Market Street, and Macy's (originally John Wanamaker's) on Market Street east of City Hall.

Also walk or take a cab along Benjamin Franklin Parkway to The Franklin Institute. Have a cab ride in Baldwin 3-cylinder compound 4-10-2 No. 60000 in The Train Factory (formerly Railroad Hall).

Lee, the local Boscov's I visit still have trains in the toy department. They just got in a shipment of Lionel sets and some freight cars. Boscov's in Reading and Pottstown.

Boscovs in Hazeton had them during the holidays last year. Maybe they haven't arrived in Hershey yet.

Maybe closer to the holiday season they carry model trains, similar to what Target stores used to do.

Up north you guys have a model train paradise, here in Florida we have a drought as far as model trains go.

I bought the K-Line PRR Liberty Limited passenger set, with the extra cars and the "B" unit at Boscov's at Plymouth Meeting, PA., specifically because I wanted a set from a department store, just like the good old days.
